Extend your network coverage by adding a Beacon (Wi-Fi point)

You can add an additional Beacon (Wi-Fi point) into your existing Nokia WiFi network with the Nokia WiFi mobile app. This can be done with a wireless connection or with an Ethernet cable.

Note: If your root device is 5G gateway, only Beacon 2 can be used to extend your Wi-Fi network.

Add a Wi-Fi point

  1. Tap Network on the bottom navigation of the Nokia WiFi Mobile App.
  2. In the Wi-Fi Points tab of the Network screen, tap Add Wi-Fi point.
    • Test a new location - follow the instructions to test a potential location of your new Wi-Fi point with only your mobile phone before adding the new Wi-Fi point to your network.
    • If you would like to connect with an Ethernet cable tap Connect with Ethernet to skip wireless placement tips and location test.
  3. Place your Beacon - follow the instructions in the app to place your Beacon after you have found a good location. The app starts adding the Wi-Fi point with a message on the screen as connection in progress.
  4. Tap Wi-Fi points on the home screen or Network on the bottom of the home screen to check if the Wi-Fi point if online or offline.
  5. If the Wi-Fi point is offline, in the Wi-Fi Points tab, tap Ready to connect on the Wi-Fi point that is just added to the network.
  6. If needed, tap It’s powered on or Help me find a location or Connect to Ethernet.
  7. Power on the Wi-Fi point and it will get automatically connected to the network. The LED will turn blue-green when it is ready. The Wi-Fi point is now online.
    • If you tap It’s powered on, go to step 7.
    • If you tap Help me find a location, go to step 8.
    • If you tap Connect to Ethernet, go to step 12.
  8. Test a potential location using your phone and check if the location is good then tap Got it.
  9. Once you have arrived at the desired location, tapStart test.
  10. If the location is too close, tap Try new locationand place your root device or other Wi-Fi point away from your Wi-Fi point and then tap Next.
  11. If the location is a potential location, tap It’s powered on.
  12. The app starts finalising adding your Wi-Fi point, tap Okay. Once the connection is established, the Wi-Fi point is ready to use.
  13. Using an Ethernet cable connect one end to any one end of yellow port of your existing Wi-Fi point. Tap Next.
  14. Using the same Ethernet cable, connect the other end of it into the blue (WAN) port of the new Wi-Fi point. Tap Next.
  15. Plug the Wi-Fi point and power it on, tap It’s powered on.
  16. The app starts finalising adding your Wi-Fi point, tap Done. Once the connection is established, the Wi-Fi point is ready to use.

To remove an offline device:

  1. Tap Wi-Fi points on the home screen or Network on the bottom of the home screen to check if the Wi-Fi point if online or offline.
  2. If the Wi-Fi point is offline, in the Wi-Fi Points tab, tap Ready to connect on the Wi-Fi point that is just added to the network.
  3. Tap Remove this WiFi point.
    • Tap Remove to remove this WiFi point or tap Cancel to not remove the WiFi point.
