Networking mode configurations - DHCP, static, PPoE, bridge

To configure networking modes

In your network mode settings (DHCP, static, PPoE, or bridge) you can change how your network assigns IP addresses to connected devices. (Dependent on your internet provider.)

  1. Tap Settings at the bottom of the home screen of the Nokia WiFi Mobile App.

  1. In the Settings page, swipe down and tap Advanced.
  2. Tap Networking Mode and then Mode.
  3. Select any of the following networking modes, as applicable:

Mode

Description

DHCP

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol allows your Beacon to get an IP address automatically.

This is the default option and enables the route mode.

Bridge

This option enables bridge mode. (bridge mode is supported in all Nokia WiFi Beacons except Beacon 6, Beacon 2 will be supported in May 2022)

Static

Configure the following:

  • IP Address
  • Subnet Mask
  • Default Gateway
  • Primary DNS (mandatory)
  • Secondary DNS (optional)

This address does not change automatically and has been reserved by your ISP specifically for you.

PPPoE

Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet requires a specific username and password from your ISP and typically is used with DSL connections.

Enter your username and password (from your ISP specifically for PPoE authentication).

  1. Tap the check mark check.png at the top right corner to save the changes.
  2. If you selected DHCP or Bridge, a warning displays that a reboot is required for this change to take effect. Tap Reboot. Once reboot is complete, a message displays indicating that the Beacon has restarted and the bridge or DHCP mode is enabled.
Note: This step does not apply to the Static and PPPoE modes.

Note
In bridge mode, Beacons and the devices connected to them all get their IP address from your 3rd party router.
