Bridge mode

Nokia WiFi Beacons work in route mode by default. You can change this to bridge mode in the advanced settings of the Nokia Wifi mobile app.

When you use a Nokia WiFi Beacon in bridge mode, you get an IP address from your 3rd party router. (When you’re in route mode, your IP address comes from the Nokia WiFi Beacon).

Bridge mode supports both Wi-Fi and Ethernet backhaul (that’s the connection between your WiFi Beacons). To set up an Ethernet backhaul connection in bridge mode, connect Ethernet cables into your Beacons as shown in this diagram (the LAN to WAN connection).

Changing your Beacon to bridge mode

  • Tap hamburger menu on the top left and select Settings

  • Tap Advanced Settings
  • Tap Networking Mode

  • Tap Mode and select the Bridge Mode option to enable or disable bridge mode

  • You will see a warning pop-up message about the network needing to reboot to make this change
  • Tap Reboot

  • Once rebooting is complete, you will see a pop-up message saying the Beacon has restarted and bridge mode is enabled

Using the Web GUI

  • Connect to your Nokia WiFi network (or connect your laptop to your root Nokia WiFi Beacon with an Ethernet cable)
  • Enter the following URL into your browser: http://www.webgui.nokiawifi.com/
  • Under the Network tab, select MESH on the left side of the web page
  • Select the check box Enable Bridge Mode to enable or disable bridge mode
  • Click the Reboot button in the pop-up window
  • Your Beacon will reboot in bridge mode

In bridge mode, Beacons and the devices connected to them all get their IP address from your 3rd party router.

 

Changing your Beacon from bridge mode to route mode

Using your Nokia WiFi app on your mobile device

  • Launch the Nokia WiFi app
  • Click the menu button and select Settings
  • In the settings menu, select Advanced Settings
  • Select Networking Mode
  • Select the DHCP (or other option) to disable bridge mode
  • You will see a warning pop-up message about the network needing to reboot to make this change
  • Select Reboot

  • Once rebooting is complete, you will see a pop-up message saying the Beacon has restarted and bridge mode is enabled
