Extend your network coverage by adding a Beacon (Wi-Fi point and Ethernet cable)

You can add an additional Beacon (Wi-Fi point) into your existing Nokia WiFi network with the Nokia WiFi mobile app. This can be done with a wireless connection or with an Ethernet cable.

Note: If your root device is 5G gateway, only Beacon 2 can be used to extend your Wi-Fi network.

Add a Wi-Fi point

  1. Tap Network on the bottom navigation of the Nokia WiFi Mobile App.
  2. In the Wi-Fi Points tab of the Network screen, tap Add Wi-Fi point. This can be done with a wireless connection or while connected with an Ethernet cable.
  3. Placement tips- the app will show some tips on how to place an extender Wi-Fi point
  4. Location test - test a potential location using your only your phone before placing the device
  5. Predicted RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator)- shows an estimated signal strength between your Wi-Fi extender (or node) and the nearest router or access point before it’s fully connected and running.
  6. When you have found a good location follow the steps in the app to plug it in and power it on.
  7. Name the device - the app will prompt you to pick a name for the Wi-Fi point to help identify it later. (available when the Wi-Fi points QR code is scanned by the app, if connecting manually the device can be named later in the app).
  8. The app will finalize the connection of the newly added extender Wi-Fi point, and it will show in the app with a status of "connection in progress" until it has completed.
  9. The RSSI value indicates the strength of the Wi-Fi signal between network and the newly connected device (extender).  When the extender is connected over WiFi backhaul, the RSSI value is indicated. It is not available when extender is connected via Ethernet, or it is offline.

Connect with Ethernet cable:

  1. For Ethernet cable connection, connect the ethernet cable that is provided in the box to the blue WAN port of the new Beacon.
  2. Plug the other end of the ethernet cable to any available LAN port or any existing Wi-Fi point on your network.

To remove a Wi-Fi point from the network:

  1. You will only be able to remove extender Wi-Fi points from the network (not the root device)
  2. To find the Wi-Fi point you want to remove, tap Wi-Fi points on the home screen or Network on the bottom navigation.
  3. On the Wi-Fi point detail screen find the remove button from the top right menu "..."
  4. If the Wi-Fi point is powered up you will be prompted to turn it off first in order for it to be removed.
