How to tell if a problem accessing the internet is an issue with the Wi-Fi point (router) or the internet?

To help isolate a problem with accessing the internet first try using a wired Ethernet connection directly into your modem (and reboot your modem).

  • If the problem continues, then the issue is with your internet provider or possibly your modem.

If the connection is fine while connecting directly to your modem

  • Try connecting to your root Wi-Fi point with an Ethernet cable.
      • If the problem continues then it is a problem with your root Wi-Fi point
      • If not, the problem is an issue with the wireless connection.
